    Personal Information From Joseph Foster ("Pedigrees" 1874): "Elizabeth, daughter of ____ Bankes, of _______. Proved her husband's will in 1571. Her will, in which she describes herself as of Hoode, co. York, widow, and desires to be buried at Kilburne near her late husband, is dated 13 Nov., 1580. Proved in the Exchequer Court of York 10 June, 1581. Her husband in his will desires that she shall have 10 kye, 5 calves, and 40 sheep kept and depastured within and amongst the kye, calves and sheep of his son Gilbert, also that she shall occupy one half of his house for her life."

    Marriage Fact The order of the children here is that given in Joseph Foster's "Pedigrees" (1874). In this case, the first child listed is Richard, who does not have a number but is said to be the third son. Then there is 2. John, Thomas, 1. Cecilie, 2. Jane, Gilbert (the eldest), and 4. Anthony. The reason for such an arrangement, which is also seen in other families, appears to be the space needed on the document to provide more details for certain family members, while still keeping them all together.
